Paediatric Hand and Skin Surgery

Paediatric trigger thumb occurs when the thumb becomes stuck in a bent position due to tightening of the flexor tendon. In some cases, the condition resolves with time, but persistent trigger thumb may require a minor surgical release to restore full movement and function.

Ganglion cysts are fluid-filled lumps that commonly appear on the wrist or hand. They are benign but may cause discomfort, restriction of movement, or cosmetic concerns. If a ganglion is painful or interferes with function, surgical removal may be an option.

Polydactyly refers to the presence of an extra finger or toe, which may be small and non-functional (simple polydactyly). Surgical removal is considered when the extra digit affects hand function, catches on clothing, or causes concern for families.

Congenital moles or skin lesions in children are usually harmless, but surgical excision may be recommended if a lesion changes in appearance, causes irritation, or is located in a high-risk area.

Children with prominent ears may experience self-consciousness or teasing as they grow. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and reposition the ears closer to the head for a more natural contour. This procedure is commonly performed in early childhood, once the ears have fully developed, to improve facial balance and confidence.
