Implant removal or revision may be considered for rupture, capsular contracture, other implant complications or a personal preference to remove or change implants. Capsulectomy removes some or all of the scar capsule when indicated; it is not automatically needed for every implant removal. The extent of surgery depends on implant history, examination and any required imaging. The breast may change shape after removal, and a lift may sometimes be discussed. Removal cannot guarantee that systemic symptoms will resolve. Risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, tissue injury, asymmetry and further surgery. Medicare eligibility must be assessed individually.

Breast augmentation changes breast volume and shape, most commonly with implants. The suitability of implants or any other approach is assessed individually. Consultation covers implant options, scars, expected limitations and the need for ongoing follow-up. Implants are not lifetime devices and may require removal or replacement. Risks include infection, bleeding, altered sensation, asymmetry, rupture, capsular contracture and rare implant-associated cancers. Cosmetic augmentation is generally not covered by Medicare; any reconstructive eligibility requires individual assessment.
