Our Approach
Scar revision may be considered for a scar that affects movement, is painful or has features that concern you. Surgery changes or repositions scar tissue and creates a new scar; improvement is not guaranteed. Non-surgical options may be appropriate depending on the diagnosis and stage of healing.
Assessment, risks and limitations
Dr Zaman reviews the cause of the scar, previous treatments and your healing history. Risks of surgery include bleeding, infection, wound breakdown, altered sensation and a scar that remains prominent or becomes thicker. Other treatments have their own risks and limitations, which are discussed before proceeding. Hypertrophic and keloid scars may recur after treatment.
Recovery and follow-up
Scar care can require several reviews and a period of observation. Wound care, protection from sun exposure and activity restrictions depend on the treatment and scar location. Scar maturation takes time, and your care plan may change as healing progresses.
