Considering Thigh Lift Surgery
A thigh lift removes selected excess thigh skin and sometimes fat. It may be considered after substantial weight loss or changes in skin elasticity. It is not a treatment for obesity and cannot remove all cellulite or guarantee a particular shape. Skin irritation or discomfort may also need separate medical assessment.
Assessment and surgical options
Assessment considers inner or outer thigh skin excess, fat distribution, weight stability, nutritional status, mobility, previous operations and health. The incision may be limited to the groin for selected concerns, or extend down the thigh when more skin needs removal. A lower body lift addresses a different pattern of skin excess. Liposuction alone does not remove substantial loose skin.
Scar trade-offs
Greater skin removal generally requires longer scars. Scars are permanent and can widen, migrate, become raised or remain sensitive. The intended scar pattern, untreated areas and alternatives should be discussed before surgery. Perfect symmetry or a smooth contour cannot be promised.
Risks and limitations
Risks include bleeding, infection, fluid collection, wound breakdown, tissue loss, prominent scars, altered sensation, persistent swelling, asymmetry and further surgery. The groin and thigh wounds may need prolonged care if healing is delayed. Lymphatic tissues may be affected. Anaesthetic complications and blood clots in the legs or lungs can be serious. Smoking, nutritional deficiencies and certain medical conditions increase risk.
Recovery and movement
Plan help at home and discuss work, travel, driving, lifting and exercise. Instructions about walking, garments, dressings and movement depend on the operation. Your team will guide activity as the wounds heal. Recovery varies and may be prolonged if complications occur; follow-up is needed to assess progress.
